This is where regional hospitals send cases that need better care and equipment than they can provide. The UNMH Children's Hospital Neo-Natal Unit is especially respected. Because UNMH is a teaching hospital it has state-of-the-art equipment and knowledge available. A fairly recent addition to Albuquerque is the NM Heart Hospital to which people from all over travel to receive state-of-the-art heart care. Each major community in NM has it's own hospital and rural communities have EMT ambulance services that respond and take persons to regional hospitals. |
