The Very Large Array (NRAO) | New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
| New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NM Tech) is in Socorro. It is an undergraduate and graduate university specializing in science and engineering education and research. Tech divisions and departments include world-class research programs providing unique student opportunities
The well known Very Large Array (National Radio Astronomy Observatory) with its 27 antenae (each is 82 feet in diameter) is located 50 miles West of Socorro. The telescopes are moved into different configurations about every four months. You saw them in the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster.
